DES MOINES – Combat veteran, father, and current representative Zach Nunn today launched his first television ad for his reelection bid highlighting his experience adopting his two youngest daughters and his work to make adoption more accessible for Iowa families.
“Kelly and I will never have a more important job than raising our six kids. Our family grew in a special way when we adopted Jayna and Aliya,” said Rep. Nunn. “Through our experience fostering and adopting these two little girls, we learned so much about the system. Now, I’m fighting in Washington to make it easier for every child to find their forever home.”
In May 2021, Kelly Nunn received a call in the middle of the night asking if she and Zach would consider fostering two sisters. The sisters, Aliya and Jayna, moved in with the Nunn family in December of that year. After more than a year of fostering the girls, Zach and Kelly officially adopted their daughters on April 5, 2023 completing their family of six.
In Congress, Zach has used his personal experience to drive common sense policy to encourage and support fostering and adoption:
- Zach introduced bipartisan legislation to double the tax credit for families adopting siblings in the same year.
- He also introduced bipartisan legislation to expand the adoption tax credit to low-income families.
- Zach co-chairs the bipartisan Congressional Youth Foster Caucus.
