Trone Garriott Finally Agrees to Debate Nunn on October 27, Two Weeks Into Early Voting

Des Moines, IA – Combat aviator and U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) released the following statement after Sarah Trone Garriott accepted KCCI’s October 27 debate, more than a month after Nunn first accepted the station’s invitation.

“On the debate stage Iowans will have a clear choice between my record of delivering bipartisan results for all Iowans and my opponent’s radical record of wanting the largest tax increase in Iowa history and driving up costs for families and farmers,” said Rep. Zach Nunn. “Sarah Trone Garriott knows that record is hard to defend in front of Iowans, which is why she hid from this debate for more than a month, until nearly a third of voters in our district will have already cast their ballot. Iowans expect better. I said yes to this debate in September because Iowans deserve to hear from both candidates, and I stand ready to make my case on October 27.”

Nunn accepted KCCI’s invitation in September and said yes to every debate date offered by the station before or during the first week of early voting. Trone Garriott refused to debate until October 27, the latest first debate of any race for governor, U.S. Senate or Congress in Iowa this cycle. By that point in the 2024 cycle, more than 120,000 3rd District voters had already cast their ballot.
