“Stand Up For Us” features an Iowa athlete in her own words on Trone Garriott’s votes to allow boys in girls’ sports and girls’ locker rooms
Des Moines, IA – Combat aviator and U.S. Representative Zach Nunn today released “Stand Up For Us,” the fourth television ad of the 2026 general election and the second to put Sarah Trone Garriott’s Iowa Senate record in front of Iowa voters. The 60-second spot features an Iowa athlete describing what it takes to earn a spot on the field, and how Sarah Trone Garriott has voted to take that spot away.
“Zach Nunn is a father of five daughters. When he voted to protect girls’ sports, he was a dad standing up for his kids and every other girl in Iowa,” said Nunn Campaign Manager Brendan Duffy. “Sarah Trone Garriott had the same opportunity twice, and voted no both times, including against protections for girls’ sports and locker rooms. Now she’s running ads telling Iowa parents she agrees with Zach. Nobody runs away from a record they’re proud of. Trone Garriott is trying to rewrite hers because she knows Iowa voters won’t like what they see.”
Background on the bills and roll calls in the ad:
- Girls’ sports (HF 2416). The bill required school athletic teams to be designated by sex at birth and limited girls’ and women’s events to female students. Trone Garriott voted no. Bill text and history HERE. Roll call, Senate Journal p. 430, HERE. Then-State Senator Zach Nunn voted yes on the same roll call.
- School locker rooms (SF 482). The bill required school restrooms and changing areas to be used only by students of the corresponding biological sex. Trone Garriott voted no. Bill text and history HERE. Roll call, Senate Journal pp. 531–532, HERE.
