DES MOINES — Combat aviator and U.S. Representative Zach Nunn released the following statement on Democrat Candidate Xavier Carrigan’s dangerous and disgusting rhetoric.
“Last week, our country was shaken by horrific political violence that left a woman without a husband and two young children without a father. In moments like these, we must stand united, regardless of party, in condemning political violence and the reckless rhetoric that fuels it.”
“Democrat candidate for Iowa’s Third District Xavier Carrigan showed he is unfit for office and crossed a line that endangers every Iowan. This type of inflammatory rhetoric is appalling, must be condemned without hesitation and only risks leading us to more tragedy. I call on his fellow Democrats, Sarah Trone Garriott and Jennifer Konfrst, to join me in rejecting this dangerous rhetoric. Silence in the face of extremism legitimizes political violence and puts lives at risk — and if they do not condemn this rhetoric, they are endorsing extremism and unfit for public office.”
BACKGROUND:
A recent report exposed Xavier Carrigan’s history of dangerous, unacceptable rhetoric:
- This past weekend at the Polk County Democrats Steak Fry, where he said “Going high when they go low got us here. So I say when they go low, we drive our knee right into their face.”
- On his website, Carrigan declares “we are in a fight against fascism, not metaphorically, not theoretically, but factually,” and “if you are running for office and this is not your first priority, then you are not ready for this moment.” He also says “if you’re playing it safe…then you are failing the people you claim to represent.”
- Following Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Xavier failed to condemn the violence and even went so far as to suggest on TikTok the attack was “orchestrated” by conservatives.
Unfortunately, his comments may be reflective of today’s Democrat base: Only 38% of Democrats believe it is always unacceptable to feel joy at the death of someone they oppose.
